A Few Quick Items: Wharf Hotel, Earth Day Clean-Up, Another Pizza Autentica Opens, Centennial Cherry Blossom Festival

- PR Newswire brings news that the Hoffman-Madison Waterfront team has selected Humboldt Hospitality to advise them on the sale or joint venture of their hotel site for phase one of The Wharf. The hotel is planned as a luxury, full service, four-star/diamond facility and will face the Washington Channel, adjacent to the future home of The Graduate School USA at 9th Street and Maine Avenue.

- According to the SW Library Playground Project blog, the group will be holding a spring clean-up of the proposed site for a new playground on Earth Day, April 23rd from 11am-1pm.  Everyone is welcome to come and help with the clean-up.  Items that are needed include work gloves and rakes, however, bags will be provided. The playground site is located at 3rd & I Street, next to the Southwest Library, which itself will be renovated over the next few years.

- Last Thursday, the second Pizza Autentica in Southwest opened on the ground floor of Capitol View, an office building at 425 3rd Street.  The new restaurant is open seven days a week (Monday - Friday from 7am-10pm and weekends from 11am-10pm). In addition to pizza, stromboli, salads and paninis, the restaurant serves breakfast on weekdays and also has gelato.

- Get ready for an extended cherry blossom festival...the National Cherry Blossom Festival organizers have announced that the centennial celebration of the gifting of cherry trees to DC by Japan will take place next year and the normal two-week festival will last five weeks. Next year's festival will run from March 20 - April 27, 2012.

I stopped in Pizza Autentica yesterday for a quick bite after work, and was really impressed by the staff and the layout. (Better than the L'Enfant location.) The pizza slice was fine - nothing to write home about, but tasty nonetheless. I can see how this will be a place for me to stop at every now and then as I walk home from Federal Center SW metro.

I'm really happy about Pizza Authentica's later closing time than most of the other places in the area. Looking forward to all those 9 pm gelato runs.....

I think one of these pizza authentica's should offer delivery. while the person above me said, its nothing to write home about, it is a decent ny style pizza slice you can't find many places around here. I'm from Jersey, and I'm tired of having to order dominos when I want delivery pizza. it's absolutely disgusting. I don't have a car or I would drive to pizza authentica. Is there any word on delivery??

Stopped in last night (Sunday night) around 11:10pm for pizza on way home from Federal Center SW Station. Pizza Autentica was open and had hot pizza! Talked to the guy behind the counter, and he confirmed that this P.A. location will be open 7 days a week til midnight and that this is a permanent change. FYI, last night, they put away a lot of stuff including all the gelato at just after 11:30 pm.

So, it seems we have a new late-night pizza-and-gelato option here in Southwest! Hooray :D

DC Food and Rent: Their menus say they close at 12am, so I asked an employee why they were closing at 10pm. He said no one was around late, so they were closing earlier. Good to hear they have decided to close later now. I stopped by this evening for some gelato, but their machine was brokem :-(

I just wish we could have someone who does not serve coke, Potbelly's, Pizza Authentica, McDonald's,subway and now Phillips. If you know their business model makes it hard to drink. I always smuggle in drinks from street carts.
Otherwise nice spot
